It will be 80 years, Monday January 27, since the Auschwitz concentration camp was liberated. For the occasion, various political figures are expected in Poland. Among them, Emmanuel Macron, Justin Trudeau and even Charles III.

A date that will have marked contemporary history: on January 27, 1945, the Soviet Red Army liberated the Auschwitz concentration camp. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of this liberation, a commemorative ceremony is organized in Poland. It will be held on Monday January 27, 2025. Several heads of state and a number of political figures are expected. Among which – on the French side -: the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron and the mayor of , Anne Hidalgo, accompanied by Parisian elected officials – deputies among others as reported by TF1.

More broadly, the European personalities present will include: the Austrian President, Alexander Van der Bellen, the Estonian, Finnish, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Italian, Maltese, Moldovan, Slovak and Slovenian Presidents, but also the German President and his Chancellor, Olaf Scholz. The Dutch Prime Minister, Dick Schoof, will be present, as will the Swedish head of government, Ulf Kristersson, and the Irish Micheál Martin. King Charles III also announced his participation. Also in attendance will be King Felipe VI of Spain, King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, and Prince Philippe of Belgium.

Representatives from North and South American countries will also be present: Justin Trudeau, the Canadian Prime Minister, has confirmed his presence at the ceremony. Argentina and Mexico will send their ambassadors in particular.

Concerning the current Ukrainian president, uncertainties persist: “If he decides to come, we won’t know until the last moment”specified Piotr Cywinski, the director of the Auschwitz State Museum to the newspaper Ouest .

Another unknown data: the presence or not of the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. Will he be present despite the arrest warrant issued in November by the International Criminal Court? While Israel has decided to send its Minister of Education, Poland has indicated that it wishes to attend the commemorations.
