Royal Antwerp FC is in mourning. This morning, former player and former chairman Eddy Wauters passed away.
Eddy Wauters has an incredible track record at Royal Antwerp FC. He was a player there and made 234 appearances for the club.
He was called up four times for the Red Devils. In 1963 he became vice-champion with The Great Old, after Standard.
In 1969 he became chairman of the club, then still a second division. The promotion followed a year later. Wauters also became head coach several times, when a trainer was fired.
In 1991 he won the cup as chairman, under trainer Walter Meeuws. Two years later, The Great Old played the European Cup II final against Parma at Wembley.
-He parted ways with the club in January 2012. At that time he had served as chairman for 42 years.
