Kevin Mirallas briefly worked with Rudi Garcia in Lille and for him, there is no doubt, the Belgian Union made the right choice by appointing the Frenchman as the new coach of the Red Devils.
The experienced Rudi Garcia is therefore the new coach of our national team. The 60-year-old Frenchman has played for big clubs like Roma, Naples, Marseille, Lyon, but also Lille. He was also the coach of the Dogues during the Coupe de France – championship double achieved during the 2010-2011 season.
At LOSC, he also worked with Eden Hazard, but also Kevin Mirallas, our consultant. According to him, the Belgian Union made the right choice by seeking out Rudi Garcia. “For different reasons. Firstly, he has experience, and has spent time in big clubs where he had to manage stars, so he knows what it is. In Lille, he brought out a lot of young people, he knows how to make them progress, and he developed Eden Hazard“, declares the former Red Devil.
“Yes, this is his first experience as a coach“, adds Kevin Mirallas, “it’s something different but where you have a little more time to work, to go see the players, their matches and see how you’re going to play. I think if he was on the list to be a coach, he’s been following the national team for a while. He’s nearby, and he already speaks one of the languages. Among those who were cited, I think it was the right choice“, enthuses our consultant.
Rudi Garcia was in fact one of the favorites to take this position of coach, with Thierry Henry and Julen Lopetegui. “Thierry Henry, the strength he had is that he already knows some of the players and the Belgian Union. But then, what experience does he have as a T1? That’s why I find that Rudi Garcia is a more logical choice even if lately, whether in Naples or elsewhere, things have gone a little less well, but that’s the lot of everything coach“.
Other observers also pointed out their desire to see a Belgian coach at the head of the Red Devils. “If you look at Hein Vanhaezebrouck or Philippe Clement, he has a hundred times more experience“, answers Kevin Mirallas, not convinced by the profile of Belgian coaches on the market.
