The Red Devils know their new national coach: the Frenchman Rudi Garcia succeeds Domenico Tedesco. The 60-year-old Garcia was previously working at top clubs such as AS Roma, Marseille, Lyon and Napoli and is also known as the man who launched Eden Hazard at Lille at the time. Garcia will be presented this afternoon.
A week after the resignation of Domenico Tedesco, the Red Devils again have a national coach. The Frenchman Rudi Garcia is at the helm of the national team.
The 60-year-old Garcia was on the much-discussed shortlist of sports director Vincent Mannaert, although in recent days, especially Yellow Lopetegui seemed to be in pole position. But the ex-national coach of Spain is therefore not.
With Garcia, the Football Association brings in a coach with a lot of experience in international football. He worked himself in his own country, where he would break through as a trainer at Lille.
Garcia led the Northern French club to the national title in 2011 and took care of the budget of a young Eden Hazard.
After five years at Lille, he went to AS Roma for three seasons, making him a vice champion twice in Italy. This was followed by jobs at Marseille, Lyon, the Saudi Al -Nassr – where he occasionally clashed with Cristiano Ronaldo – and Napoli.
At the latter club he was fired after five months in November 2023. It was also his last assignment as a coach.
Garcia now has to give the Red Devils a new impetus. After a dramatic 2024, with a disappointing European Championship and a weak Nations League campaign, the Frenchman at Belgium stands for some solid challenges. His first match will follow on March 20 with the Nations League braage against Ukraine.
Garcia will be presented this afternoon at 1 p.m. in the Federal Building in Tubeke.
