Manchester United and Napoli have been trying to reach an agreement that would see Alejandro Garnacho head to Serie A, but thus far to no avail.

The 20-year-old lost his starting berth following the departure of Erik ten Hag who considered him among his key players. His captain Bruno captain also described him as a special player and one of the club’s difference-makers.

On the contrary, Ruben Amorim is opting for Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo in the two slots behind the lone striker in his 3-4-2-1 formation. Therefore, the Argentine is no longer considered ‘unsellable’ as he once was, especially with the club failing to make progress in the contract negotiations with his entourage.

In recent weeks, Napoli has emerged as a potential destination for the young winger, identifying him as their preferred profile to replace Khvicha Kvaratakhelia who completed a transfer to Saint-Germain last week.

But while Man Utd officials have been in Italy to discuss a deal with their Italian counterparts, the two parties are still separated by a considerable gap.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport via TuttoMercatoWeb, Napoli are refusing to raise their €50 million plus bonuses offer, while the Red Devils are holding out for at least €60 million.

The Roman newspaper notes that United’s Financial Fair Play difficulties could force them to negotiate, but for now, they remain stubborn on their current stance, having already decreased their original asking price of €75 million.

Moreover, the source adds that Napoli have already found themselves an alternative target in the shape of Karim Adeyemi. So if they manage to make a breakthrough in their talks with Borussia Dortmund and the player, they could completely abandon their pursuit of Garnacho.
