JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) -We’ve issued a First Alert Weather Day due to dangerously cold temperatures expected throughout much of the morning. If you need to head out early today, please exercise caution as temperatures will start in the teens across the area. Additionally, if any precipitation fell yesterday, it could refreeze overnight, creating the potential for black ice, especially to the south. Don’t worry, temperatures will gradually warm throughout the day, so any ice or snow will melt and conditions should improve as the day progresses.
Looking ahead, we’ll see a gradual warming trend this week. However, expect very cold mornings with temperatures staying below freezing until Friday. Daytime highs will rebound into the 50s and 60s later in the week.
This weekend, temperatures will climb back into the 60s, and there is a good chance of rain, especially Sunday into early next week. We’ll keep you updated, but rain gear is not needed today—just be sure to keep a heavy jacket handy.
