Niels Destadsbader got a role in ‘Amika’ because Gert Verhulst was ‘bitten in the ass’ by another candidate: “Can you learn lyrics quickly?”

It wouldn’t have mattered much if the role of Olivier De La Fayette in ‘Amika’ had gone to someone other than Niels Destadsbader. The actor came to audition for another role in the Ketnet series. “But then Gert Verhulst had a small discussion with the auditor who would normally play Olivier,” says Niels in the podcast ‘Behind the scenes’. “Ten minutes later I was auditioning for that role. And in the end I had it too.”

In addition to singing and acting, Niels also has a talent for beatboxing. “I went to school with the Belgian beatboxing champion and they attracted a lot of girls,” he explains of his relatively unknown talent.
