Hansi Flick, Barcelona coach, speaking to journalists after the game with Benfica at Estádio da Luz:
«It was a crazy game. Benfica did very well in the first half, but we also made a lot of mistakes. We didn’t defend very well. (…) We needed to change something. We needed better positioning. The team had a good mentality, they always believed. I was happy with one point, but three is much better. We invested a lot, especially in the second half, we created more opportunities and we deserved it.”
[Como é que esta vitória pode impactar na confiança da equipa e o que acha da exibição de Szczesny?]
“He made some mistakes, but everyone made mistakes in the first half. I’m not talking about a player’s performance in this situation. He also stopped a great opportunity for Benfica in the second half. We win and lose together.”
[Surpreendido com o Benfica na primeira parte?]
“No. I was surprised, yes, by the way we played, with little pressure. Benfica is one of the best teams in transition. They have very good players and the coach did a great job. It’s great to see them play.”
[Opinião sobre o que se passou no último minuto, com o Benfica a pedir um penálti.]
-“I didn’t see the last situation. We have to trust VAR. They decided against Benfica, in our favor and that’s how it happens sometimes in football.”
[Foi a vitória mais extraordinária da sua carreira, também atendendo aos erros da equipa, que ainda assim conseguiu ganhar?]
«I live in the present and what I can say is that it was a crazy game with a happy ending. But in the Champions League and also in the Super Cup the team has always surprised. Today, negatively in the first half, but positively in the second half.”
[Ganhou a Champions neste estádio e agora ganha também aqui um jogo louco. Porque é que se dá tão bem na Luz?]
I don’t know. I love Lisbon. I had good connections with Benfica in the past, when we won the Champions League here. The atmosphere is incredible. I love this culture.”
