One of Real Madrid’s top transfer targets will snub the Spanish soccer giant by not joining it on a free transfer this summer and instead renewing terms with his current employers according to MARKwhich cited anonymous sources.
Los Blancos have been strongly linked to Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies and Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold approaching June 30, with both men considered to be arguably the world’s best left back and right back respectively.
Unable to field a natural right back for Wednesday’s Champions League hosting of RB Leipzig at the Bernabeu, Madrid has already tried to test Liverpool’s mettle with a low-ball bid for Alexander-Arnold in the current winter market but was told no.
MARK reported that Liverpool said it did not want to lose a key player while it currently tops the Premier League and the UCL’s new look league phase, because of strong ambitions to win both competitions if possible.
While it still looks positive for Alexander-Arnold switching allegiances when he is a free agent past June 30 in what would be a major coup for President Florentino Perez, things have taken a wrong turn for Madrid regarding Davies.
It was around this time last year that The Athletic reported Davies had verbally agreed to join Madrid when he would also no longer be tied down to Bayern after said date.
-In recent weeks, though, there has been increased talk of the Canadian renewing with the Bavarians which will now come to light according to MARK.
Davies and his agent have finally managed to get the offer they want from Bayern, which is a reported $15.5 million (€15 million) a season on a new five-year deal that runs until 2030.
Though he has done well in the past by landing Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe, Perez again looks set to lose out on his man as we saw with Leny Yoro.
The Frenchman was similarly nearing the last 12 months of his deal at Lille last summer, but a refusal to pay a significant transfer fee from Madrid saw him instead head to Manchester United while manager Carlo Ancelotti was left short staffed in defense.
MARK says that Madrid had the opportunity to sign Davies for $51.8 million (€50 million) last summer, but again Perez didn’t want to play ball.
In the end, it looks like Davies to Madrid won’t happen – at least in this decade on a free transfer.
