ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A bitterly cold airmass originating from Siberia has moved into the United States. Unusually cold and breezy conditions will produce dangerously cold wind chills Monday morning.
Wind chill temperatures will bottom-out near zero across much of Metro Atlanta early Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Try to cover up much exposed skin as possible. Wearing multiple layers will provide additional warmth.

Ensure pets are properly cared for over the next few days, as well.
An Extreme Cold Warning and Cold Weather Advisory have been issued for portions of North Georgia.
This is the first time Atlanta has ever been placed under an Extreme Cold Warning. This is the first winter these two alerts have been used by the National Weather Service.
The goal was to simplify watches, warnings and advisories. These two alerts are issued when temperatures or wind chills temperatures approaches various thresholds.

An Extreme Cold Warning will be issued for Metro Atlanta when temperatures or wind chill is 0 degrees or colder.
-A Cold Weather Advisory will be issued for Metro Atlanta when the temperature or wind chill is between one and 10 degrees.
