GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – Temperatures will be cold to start the week and gradually warm up by around mid-week. Some areas of Western Colorado may experience extreme cold temperatures.
Cold Weather Alerts
A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect from 10pm this evening to 11am Monday for the Upper Gunnison River Valley. That area could experience temperatures as low as 25 degrees below zero. An Extreme Cold Watch is in effect from Monday evening through Tuesday morning for the Upper Gunnison River Valley and the Upper Yampa River Basin where temperatures could drop as low as 40 degrees below zero. The Extreme Cold Watch is also in effect for Elkhead, Park, Flat Tops, San Juans, Gore, Elk, Central, Grand and Battlement Mesas, West Elk, and Sawatch Mountains as well as the Central Yampa River Basin. Those areas could experience wind chills as low as 40 degrees below zero. Be sure to bundle up and stay indoors during those times if possible. Also make sure outdoors pets have a warm place as well.
Gradual Warming
Cold air continues to flow from the north and bring cold air with it. That will continue for the next few days and keep high temperatures in the 20s and low 30s with morning lows in the single digits and low teens. By about mid-week high pressure will have more influence and warm high temperatures to the upper 30s and low 40s with morning lows in the upper single digits to the teens.
Looking Ahead
-This week will mainly be mostly sunny and dry, but there is a storm system that I am watching for next weekend. This storm system may bring snow potential and colder temperatures once again. Our weather team will continue to track that system for you.
Our Next 24 Hours
Monday will start with clouds in the morning then transition to mostly sunny skies in the afternoon. Morning lows will be about 12 degrees in Grand Junction, 8 degrees in Montrose, 9 degrees in Delta, 3 degrees in Cortez, and 11 degrees in Moab. High temperatures in the afternoon will be about 29 degrees in Grand Junction, 23 degrees in Montrose, 29 degrees in Delta, 30 degrees in Cortez, and 30 degrees in Moab.
