“I can definitely say that I had fun today,” the tennis player began during her press conference. “Although the result was not something that would make me happy. The first set was a very humiliating experience for me. After the first game, when I was leading 40-15, I had my chances, but when trying to score a point, I made a simple mistake,” she explained.
She appreciated Iga Świątek's strength
The athlete couldn't come to terms with the fact that she couldn't break the Polish woman at the beginning of Monday's fight. “I kept wondering what would happen if I managed to break it first. But then she started playing phenomenally. She didn't make any mistakes, she didn't even let me catch my breath,” she added.

She drove through it “like a train”
However, later in her statement she admitted that Świątek completely dominated her on the court, citing a rather eloquent expression. “In German we have a saying that 'she ran over me like a train'. I didn't have time to find my rhythm at all, which was quite frustrating, but I just tried to keep a smile on my face,” said the tennis player.
Lys added that in the second game she had a little more space to play, thanks to which she took one game, which made her very happy. “In the second set, I tried to start all over again. I tried to find my style, I tried to break it. There were a few moments when she started to wobble a bit, and I think that's when I managed to get the first game,” the player concluded.
The German player did not hide her satisfaction with the fact that she appeared on the main court in front of such a large audience, which at times supported her very much. “The crowd was amazing. I really enjoyed every second at Rod Laver Arena. I had a lot of fans supporting me. It was something special. I think they love supporting the underdog, so for me just the fact that I managed to avoid a zero, was a good start. Of course, I know I still have something to work on,” she said humbly.
-Brutal bringing down to earth
Lys also added that although the whole week was extremely successful for her, a collision with a tennis player like Iga Świątek can be very “sobering” and shows that she still needs to do a lot of work to be able to compete at the highest level. “When you play against a player like that, you realize that no matter how well you did in a given week, there is always something to improve. Looking back at this match, I see many mistakes that I could have played better. Especially in key moments, I missed appropriate tactics,” she emphasized.
Despite the painful defeat, Lys will have fond memories of her debut at the Australian venue. “Of course it was difficult because it was my first time at Rod Laver Arena, but I look at it as an amazing experience. I had a great time with the audience and the fans. It was a fantastic week. Maybe not the best ending, but certainly the best way to experience something like that,” she said at the end.
