Highlights of the day
– persistence of cold
– deterioration in the south-east up to Languedoc with rain, downpour and snow in the mountains on the border Alps from 1200 meters
– a little more clearing than this weekend in the north and west in the afternoon
This morning
Be careful if you are in the north due to locally freezing fog, from the Pays de la Loire towards Hauts-de-France and the Ardennes and the edges of the Channel. Near the Mediterranean, you have threatening skies. Sometimes heavy showers affect Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur and Corsica with snow from 1200 meters. Everywhere else, you have a hazy sky, temporarily threatening near the Pyrenees, with possible showers.
Like Sunday morning, the frosts affect ¾ of the country, except the Channel and Atlantic coasts, the Basque country and the shores of the Mediterranean which are completely spared.
This afternoon
-The gray weather is less compact than this weekend in the north with the development of some clearings. From the Pyrenees to the north of the Massif Central, to the Jura in Alsace, clearings and clouds alternate in a calm atmosphere. Near the Mediterranean, the sky remains threatening, especially between Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur, the Cévennes and Corsica where showers occur with snow on the Alps and the Corsican relief from 1200 meters.
You have 1°C in the Alsace plain, 5°C between Lille, Rouen, Rennes, Paris, Limoges and Lyon, from 8 to 13°C between Brest and Biarritz and around 10°C near the Mediterranean, values 3°C below normal.
Soirée
The weather is calm over 3/4 of the country under an often clear sky in the west. The fogs and mists are more discreet than previous evenings and nights due to the rise of a light southerly wind which dries the air mass. On the other hand, in the south-east, the weather remains unstable with showers between Corsica, Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur, Languedoc and the Cévennes.
Further trend
This week, showers persist near the Mediterranean while the weather remains calm elsewhere until Wednesday in a gradually softening atmosphere due to the southerly direction of the wind. At the end of the week, we must expect the return of the disturbed Atlantic regime and rainy and windy periods, even if reliability is still limited regarding the intensity of this deterioration.
