ATLANTA — Jamie Foxx is officially back in action after a health scare while filming a movie in Atlanta in 2023.

Foxx was hospitalized in April 2023 after what started off as a “bad headache” turned into him being rushed to an Atlanta hospital. The actor has said that he was “gone for 20 days” and doesn’t remember anything.

The movie he was filming, “Back in Action,” premiered on Netflix on Friday. The film stars Foxx and Cameron Diaz, in her first acting role in a decade, as former CIA spies who are pulled back into the world of espionage when their secret identities are exposed.

The Oscar-winning actor and comedian addressed the situation that landed him in Piedmont Atlanta Hospital for nearly three weeks in a Netflix special, “What Had Happened Was…”

He said he was diagnosed with a brain bleed that led to a stroke.

Foxx later gave props to Atlanta, crediting the city and its people with his recovery.

“Atlanta saved my life, because I was here when it happened,” Foxx said in a video posted to social media in August 2024. “That’s why I said, ‘Atlanta saved me.’ If I’d have been anywhere else…”

After his hospitalization and recovery, Foxx returned to Atlanta to finish filming “Back in Action.”

“Back in Action” also stars Glenn Close, Andrew Scott and Kyle Chandler.
