Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on . Tonight: the 7th collaboration, and not the least, between Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese.

If we say Las Vegas, Robert De Niro, Sharon Stone or even Martin Scorsese, it's a safe bet that you think of the essential feature film Casino. That's good, it's precisely this thriller that we're talking about!

Released in cinemas in 1996 and awarded a Golden Globe, Casino remains, even today, among the best films of Martin Scorsese. In 1973, Sam Ace Rothstein (Robert De Niro) is the big man of the city of all madness, Las Vegas.

With his thousands of dollars, he buys and marries a scam virtuoso, Ginger McKenna (Sharon Stone), but she quickly descends into alcohol and drugs. Unfortunately for him, another problem awaits him, his childhood friend Nicky Santoro (Joe Pesci) intends to reign supreme over Sin City…

A classic rated 4.4 out of 5

With Goodfellas and Taxi Driver, Casino is the duo's other masterpiece Robert De Niro et Martin Scorsese. This is also the seventh collaboration between the actor, who is celebrating his 82nd birthday this year, and the filmmaker, who is turning 83. Both also worked on Mean Streets (1973), Raging Bull (1980), La Valse des pantins (1982), and Les Nerfs à vive (1992).

And that's not the only thing they have in common. Because with Casino, Martin Scorsese dives once again into the mafia world. He knows this environment well, since he had already worked on the subject in his feature film Mean streets.

Robert De Niro is also not a novice when it comes to the mafia. He played Johnny Boy Civello in the same film released in 1973, but also the Godfather Vito Corleone in The Godfather Part 2 (1974), the gangster Noodles Aaronson in Once Upon a Time in America (1984), Jimmy Conway Freedmen (1990), or even Paul Vitti in Mafia blues (2000) and Mafia blues 2 – la relapse (2002). A role that really sticks to him!

And once again, this collaboration works wonderfully! The press attributed to Casino the excellent rating of 4.4 out of 5, while spectators gave it an average of 4.3 out of 5. In terms of awards, the thriller received three nominations: one at the Oscars and two others at the Golden Globes.

Finally, on AlloCiné, Casino ranks sixteenth out of 300 best thrillers, while it ranks 132nd among the best films of all time. A masterpiece not to be missed.

Tonight on Arte at 9:00 p.m.
