While Nantes conceded the draw to Saint-Etienne at the very end of the match, both Jean-Charles Castelletto and Pedro Chirivella highlighted what the Canaries lacked to bring back a victory for the Chaudron, in particular the accuracy in the game.
Nantes has long believed its head was coming out of the water. Traveling to Saint-Etienne, the Canaries led the score after a quarter of an hour of play before giving in as the last ten minutes approached. They thus conceded a draw against the Greens, the third in a row in Ligue 1, in a match which highlighted their fragilities. For defender Jean-Charles Castelletto, interviewed by DAZN shortly after the final whistle, “it lacks accuracy, perhaps a bit of luck”. The Cameroonian international adds that it is “this accuracy which means that we will play the shots a little better”. Looking back at the progress of the match, the Nantes defender concedes that there were “one or two moments” in the first period in which his team could have done better before a less successful last 45 minutes. “The second half was a little more complicated,” admitted Jean-Charles Castelletto. We had fewer scoring chances because I think our attackers were tired. »
Chirivella: “We need to do more”
During the second period, his teammate Pedro Chirivella confided that Nantes wanted to “get the ball out better”, without however succeeding. The equalizer signed by Augustine Boakye was heartbreaking for Antoine Kombouaré's players, ultimately not as rewarded for their efforts as hoped. “This goal at the end of the match hurts us. We need to do more, confided to DAZN the Spanish midfielder. We just defended a little too much. » Faced with a Saint-Etienne team which “puts a lot of players in front” and “which takes a lot of risks”, the Canaries did not have the accuracy necessary to obtain a good result. “It’s not easy because they bring a lot of people forward,” adds Pedro Chirivella. We lacked the technical accuracy to find the pass and play the counterattacks better. » However, the Spaniard assures that there is a little positive to take from this meeting. “It’s a point that takes us forward but we will have to win matches,” he concluded. The Lyon reception next weekend will be an opportunity to restart the machine.
