Much of the fine was for “inappropriate behaviour” after he smashed his racquet into a net camera after he lost the third set against wildcard Kasidit Samrej in the first round.

He then added more to the bill for not showing up to his post-match press conference after he was bundled out in the second round by American qualifier Learner Tien.

He was also charged with inappropriate behaviour during his second match, as he voiced his frustration when being called for two consecutive foot-faults, resulting in a double-fault, during the second-set tie-break.

Medvedev pocketed $200,000 for reaching the second round at Melbourne Park.
