With SC Paderborn, the Hertha team will face an opponent who they would probably like to be in the table. Nevertheless, coach Cristian Fiél is combative before the start of the second half of the season.
“Sunday has to be the starting signal”
The first half of the season did not go as expected for the ambitious capital city club. With 22 points they are currently in twelfth place in the table, far away from the demands of the club and its surroundings. Coach Fiél is of course also aware of the unsatisfactory situation and wants to fully attack again. “I have absolutely no objection to the motto ‘no losing’. We know what the situation is that we got ourselves into in the first half of the season. What makes me optimistic is the work that the boys have done. We have to do that show on the pitch on Sunday and that must be the starting signal to change the current situation in the next 17 games,” the trainer demands of his men.
In the first half, Fiél was particularly bothered by the individual mistakes made by his protégés. “You have to stop making mistakes to be successful,” says Fiél. However, based on the training impressions, Fiél is positive about the upcoming tasks. “What makes me optimistic? The work that the boys have done. They know what it’s about and what they have to bring to the pitch,” emphasizes the Hertha team’s head coach.
-Dardai has to serve a suspension, Reese is not there
The loss of Marton Dardai after his yellow-red card is particularly painful in terms of personnel. In addition, Fiél will still have to do without Fabian Reese. The winger, who has been plagued by ankle problems, is back in Hertha training and is getting closer to a return, but he will not be celebrating it in Paderborn yet. “He’s not in the squad,” announces Fiél. Nevertheless, the hospital is generally clearing up again; Kevin Sessa, Marten Winkler and Linus Gechter have all recovered from their injuries. Against Paderborn, Fiél is “spoiled for choice in one position or another”.
