Kevin Holland’s mid-fight trash talk backfires as he suffers stoppage loss at UFC 311

Reiner de Ridder continues to find success in the UFC Octagon.

‘The Dutch Knight’ submitted Gerald Meerschaert in his debut in November 2024, and now he has dominated in his PPV debut against Kevin Holland at UFC 311.

De Ridder, a former ONE Championship double-champion, opened the main card portion of the PPV against ‘Trailblazer’.

Reiner de Ridder submits trash-talking Kevin Holland at UFC 311

De Ridder spared no time in the opening frame, immediately pressuring Holland to the fence and securing a takedown. The Dutch grappler appeared to underestimate Holland’s guard, as the wiry American threw up an armbar attempt that had him in trouble momentarily.

Like a dying fly, Holland flailed on his back and clubbed de Ridder with upkicks. De Ridder looked like he was hurt but, moments later, passed Holland’s guard. Holland taunted de Ridder from his back, jeering his opponent while they scrambled on the floor.

After some more grappling exchanges, de Ridder secured Holland’s back and sunk in a tight rear-naked choke, forcing the tap.

The victory marks de Ridder’s 14th career submission and second-straight win in the UFC. He’ll soon be looking to face ranked opposition in the middleweight division. As for championship aspirations, the middleweight title is up for grabs in the main event of UFC 312 between Dricus Du Plessis and Sean Strickland on February 8.

In the event of de Ridder challenging Du Plessis for the throne, it’ll be no easy feat.

Dricus Du Plessis submitted an entire team of grapplers

Du Plessis is well-known for his gung-ho striking, but his submission grappling is some of the most underrated in the UFC.

‘Stillknocks’ competed at the Submission Kings Quintet in 2021 in a five vs. five submission grappling tournament against a Gracie Barra team. Shockingly, Du Plessis steamrolled the entire five-man team back-to-back, picking up the victory.
