After Feyenoord was able to deal with Rijnsburgse Boys last Wednesday at a fairly leisurely pace, a match against Willem II is scheduled for tonight. The Rotterdam team must win in this round, where FC Utrecht and AZ also compete against each other, in order not to fall further behind.
“During the cup match, the trainer spoke in Dutch and I thought his story was quite strong,” says Diego Biseswar in FC Rijnmond after the match against Rijnsburgse Boys was thoroughly discussed. “Only then did I watch the match against Utrecht, where I also thought that they started brightly in the first fifteen minutes, but after that nothing happened. Utrecht became a bit stronger again. Priske has to be careful that it just happens for a whole half, because Now they only play well in phases. I didn’t think his press conference after FC Utrecht was very strong either.”
“He also came back with what exactly he meant,” Dennis van Eersel agrees. “He now does it in Dutch and that goes fine, but there are always some things going wrong lost in translationas they say in Denmark. I understood him that he did not mean that he liked the result. He mainly used the data that Feyenoord had much more ball possession and opportunities.”
Bart Nieuwkoop returns to the match selection against Willem II. Nasser El Khayati has no doubts about who he will prefer if both Givairo Read and the experienced defender are available. “If it is about a player who you can trust and who is fit every week, then I would of course prefer Read. Nieuwkoop is a good player for Feyenoord and had a great time in Belgium, but a trainer must be able to trust players. ” Van Eersel then tries to explain why Nieuwkoop is so injured again: “If you train and play just above your level every day, then that may also make you susceptible to injury.”
The substitution of the Croatia international is also being discussed. Luka Ivanusec came in about two minutes before the end against Rijnsburgse Boys. Van Eersel really doesn’t understand it. “I didn’t find that very useful. You can sometimes have someone come on as a reward because they are doing well in training, but not against an amateur club. It is a Croatia international for whom a lot of money has been paid. I think it is more of an insult then a reward.”
-El Khayati watched Priske’s statements after the match. The trainer said that at Feyenoord they do everything they can to support Ivanusec. “With those circumstances there, in the cup against an amateur club and you are already through with ninety seconds left on the clock, then I would let everything under twenty come in. This can only mean that you still want to get rid of him in the winter or you are bullying him into calling his agent the next morning. This is really embarrassing.”
Live in the broadcast, the men were told that Feyenoord will play an away match against PSV in the quarter-finals of the KNVB Cup. “This is a different match than the last match in the Eredivisie. The approach to a cup match is different,” El Khayati tries to find positivity for this difficult draw.
