Rune, ranked No 13, will face Italian Jannik Sinner, the top seed, next.
The 21-year-old Dane won against Chinese Zhizhen Zhang (4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4) and edged out Italian Matteo Berrettini (7-6 (3), 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6)) ahead of his victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Kecmanovic, ranked No 51, won against Dusan Lajovic (7-5, 3-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3) and Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 18 seed (6-4, 6-4, 6-2).
