The big Bayern scare is back
January 18, 2025, 2:08 p.m
The Norwegian Ole Gunnar Solksjaer is the new coach of Besiktas Istanbul and is returning to professional Football in an active role after a break of more than three years. At the Turkish top club, the 51-year-old succeeds the Dutchman Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who was released in November. Solskjaer had not worked as a coach since leaving Manchester United as coach in November 2021. In the meantime, he worked at the European Football Union (UEFA) as a technical observer. The former “Bayern-Schreck” has a contract with Besiktas until the end of the 2025/26 season, which also contains an option for the following season.
-As a player, Solksjaer had snatched the Champions League title from the German record champions: In the 1999 final, he scored 2-1 for Man United in the third minute of added time – Bayern had led until the 90th + 1 minute. Solskjaer has been less successful as a coach so far. Although he became champions with the Norwegian team Molde FK, he did not win a title with Manchester.
