Hugo Oliveira analyzed Famalicão’s defeat against Benfica. Famalicense coach answered Bola na Rede’s question.
Hugo Oliveira played the aftermath of Benfica x Famalicão which ended in a 4-0 defeat for the visiting team. Bola na Rede was at Estádio da Luz and, at the end of the match, had the opportunity to ask Hugo Oliveira, coach from Famalicense, a question. Unfortunately, we were not given the opportunity to ask Bruno Lage, the Eagles’ coach, a question.
Ball in the Net: After a start in which Famalicão looked for one or another more direct way out, the game settled down as normal in a more supported way from behind, but without great scoring chances created. Tactically, what were the biggest difficulties that night?
Hugo Oliveira: The way you explained it at the beginning says what happened. The plan wasn’t to go straight out, it was to come out connected, find the space and be aggressive to attack that moment. As the defensive game, at the beginning, created constraints and doubts in those who jumped wide to prevent Benfica’s triangulations, it later gave us doubts for the offensive moment in which we tried to connect more directly, which was not our way of being. It was about attracting the opponent, finding spaces and being objective there. I think it was only after we conceded the second goal that we started to settle into our game and, even so, when we started to settle into our game when we got close to the opponent’s area we had to finalize our actions. We have to create doubt for the opponent and reach the goal objectively and not just maintain possession so as not to run the risk of attacking the opponent. It was this doubt and fear that took away our way of being. We quickly have to learn lessons from this and aim for the next game.
