Trapp after victory and Marmoush farewell: “We all win the game”

Frankfurt Eintracht has won the English week. After victories against FC St. Pauli and SC Freiburg, the Eagle Bearers also won against Borussia Dortmund 2-0. Not only did they get their ninth point of the week, but they also remained at the top of the table and remain third after 18 matchdays.

As always, SGE4EVER.de summarized the voices of players and those responsible after the game and listened carefully to what was said.

Mario Götze: “Saying farewell to Omar is extraordinary. We all know what we had in him. He is an outstanding character and player and the whole club appreciated that. We are all happy for Omar. It’s always a shame when such an important player leaves. But the team did well today. The only drawback was that we couldn’t make as many pinpricks in the second half. But we defended well and made the spaces tight. We knew what was coming. Home game against Dortmund was a difficult game because they are also under pressure. Three points, no goals conceded, we can be very happy with that!”

Kevin Trapp: “We all win the game. That was a top performance from everyone today. We had to defend and suffer a lot. But of course, if you win against Dortmund in front of this crowd on Friday evening, it’s a very good start to the weekend. The farewell speaks for the club and for its values. Omar more than deserves this. It was his dream and no one will and can hold that against him. He was an important part both athletically and personally. You can tell that it’s not easy for him. He wasn’t always good as a booth DJ (laughs). Now we need a new one, but we have a lot of music from him.”

Dino Toppmöller (coach Eintracht Frankfurt): “We really wanted to win, we were very disciplined and passionate. It was a deserved victory. We knew that BVB had a lot of quality. We didn’t allow much and deserved to win. It’s a nice snapshot, it feels amazing to start the weekend with a win on Friday evening. But behind it there is a lot of work, training, video sessions, a lot of hard work. That makes me proud.
About Omar Marmoush: “The way he got involved right from the start is indescribable. This shows his reaction. He already had one or two tears in his eyes. It’s something very special, so that makes me a little sad. But it’s part of the business. We all wish him all the best, even though we would have liked to have kept him here. Arthur Theate is definitely a suitable candidate to succeed us as booth DJ.”

Pascal Groß (Borussia Dortmund): “It’s a results sport at the end of the day. The second half was a decent performance, but I think we always have to play like that. We didn’t win the game. In the end, we can’t buy anything from it. Eintracht played on the counter. We are too open when we concede a goal. Then we ran and had our moments, perhaps one or two tricky penalty situations that can turn a game like this around. But it wasn’t meant to be today.”

Emre Can (Borussia Dortmund): “We have to get points and we just can’t do that. We have a lot of possession, but in the end we end up with 0 points. This is not what we imagine. Eintracht is not a blind team, they can also kick. The second half was better. But we just have to win, we can’t do that at the moment. Next week we’ll step on the gas again and try it again. We have solutions, but we just have to manage to score one more goal. The protection was right today, but we won’t win the game. That’s what a top team does, but that’s not who we are at the moment. I don’t understand how you can’t give the penalties that weren’t given. Gittens runs into the penalty area at 35.36 km/h and then the contact is enough. I don’t understand it and I can’t explain it.”

Nuri Sahin (Trainer Borussia Dortmund): “The first half wasn’t good. We were too cerebral. We always felt like we were a step too late. It’s symptomatic how we concede 0-1. The second half was good. But in the end we are once again left empty-handed. It’s far too easy to score goals against us.”

Sebastian Kehl (Borussia Dortmund): “We wanted to show a reaction and get results. We didn’t manage to do that again. We made mistakes again that led to the goals. The second half was better, but we ended up empty-handed, which is very disappointing. We imagined the beginning of the year differently. We now have questions to answer and results to achieve. We will continue in this constellation and watch every game for you. We need successful games now and we have to work hard for that. If you are in the position in the table, we have to face it. I think the team can do a lot more. We will not escape criticism.”

Daniel Schlager (referee) on the penalty situation between Collins and Gittens: “For me it’s a running duel between the two. It’s a robust behavior on the part of the defender, who tries to get into a better position. I see the contact. But I had doubts that the contact was the cause of the case. That’s why I let the game continue. This is about a penalty, an important decision. Some say this, others say that. For me it wasn’t enough to finally decide on a penalty here. It’s my game and my decision. Of course the video referee checked it, but he confirmed my impression. Ultimately, we only want interventions in cases of clear wrong decisions and that wasn’t the case here for the video referee either.”

About the second penalty scene between Theate and Guirassy: “I also see the short hold there. But here too it wasn’t the cause of the case for me. Again, nothing clear or obvious. For me, less than in the first scene.”
