Provence produced a top-flight performance by beating (24-18) during the shock of the 17th day of Pro D2. Thanks to fierce defense, better discipline and well-negotiated key moments, Aix sends a clear message: they intend to play the leading roles in this championship.

It’s a real final phase match that Aix spectators were able to watch this evening. Solid and regular leader this season, the FCG fell into the trap of a choppy match where mistakes weighed heavily. From the first minutes, the visitors showed signs of excitement, particularly on the touchline, with several lost balls which prevented them from capitalizing on their offensives. Despite a quick try from Kveseladze (10th), Grenoble was never able to impose its rhythm, conceding penalty after penalty against opportunistic Aix.

The Grenoblois also lacked realism in the decisive moments. Thus, Trouilloud, entering the second half, let slip a golden opportunity with a forward in the Aix 22 meters when he wanted to quickly play a penalty (67ᵉ). As in this action, the Isérois did not know how to materialize their ammunition, failing on small details.

Soulan inspired, Drouet supersonic

Provence Rugby was able to take advantage of Grenoble's mistakes to build its success. Jules Soulan, author of 14 points, held the bar in this tense match. His 50-meter penalty in the 66th minute allowed the locals to take a definitive advantage, although the opener subsequently missed an attempt which could have killed the suspense.

In attack, the Aixois were able to be sharp. Léo Drouet shone with a double, symbolizing Provence Rugby's ability to exploit the slightest flaws in the Grenoble defense. Although he did not have the greatest match of his career, George North, who started for the first time at Maurice-David, still had an impact on the match with his playing intelligence, like his contribution on the first Aix test.
