Today, Wednesday, Al-Hassan Al-Daki, the King’s Attorney General at the Court of Cassation and the Chief Public Prosecutor, revealed the numbers related to requests for the marriage of minors during the year 2024, and the number of followers in cases of violence against women.
The judicial official explained at the opening of the new judicial year that “public prosecutions continued their roles in order to contribute to national programs aimed at reducing early marriage, in order to achieve the best interest of the child,” noting that “the number of petitions issued by the public prosecution to refuse permission for the marriage of a minor reached A total of 13,762 petitioners, or an average of 86% of the total requests registered during the year 2024, which amounted to 16 thousand requests.
In the field of enhancing protection for some vulnerable groups, Al-Daki said, “About 84,822 complaints related to violence against women were addressed, in which approximately 21,898 people were affected and 17,822 files were opened for them. As we know in 2024, a total of 195 cases related to the crime of human trafficking were recorded, in which measures and decisions were taken.” Necessary legal requirements.
Al-Daki believes that, “In order for public prosecutors to ensure the right of children to learn and study, they worked to activate the contents of the agreement concluded between the Presidency of the Public Prosecution, the National Union of Moroccan Women, and the Ministry of National Education, Primary Education and Sports regarding reducing school dropout with the aim of preventing the marriage of minors, as It contributed to the strong mobilization to reintegrate those who dropped out of school, as the number of children returned for the 2023-2024 school season reached a total of 71,662. Male and female students, 38% of whom were girls.”
