Cheaper, but still without 5G
Still under an American embargo, Huawei is not able to offer smartphones using 5G on the Old Continent. A pill that is all the more difficult to swallow for a device that will be sold for €1,999. Let us remember, however, that the Mate X3, launched in summer 2023, was priced at €2,199.
A premium price, therefore, for a folding smartphone that has all the makings of a big one. It is equipped with a large internal 7.93” OLED screen and a 6.45” front panel. All obviously clocked at 120 Hz. Inside, we find the Kirin 9020 chip, more advanced than the 9010 which powered the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra (our test) last year, as well as 12 GB of RAM for 512 GB storage. A chip which, as we have said, only has a 4G modem and offers no better than wifi 6.
In photography, Huawei relies on a trio of photo sensors. The 50-megapixel wide-angle lens has a variable aperture lens (ƒ/1.6-4.0) and its 50-megapixel telephoto lens (x3.5 optical zoom) benefits from a nice aperture at f/2.1. A 40-megapixel ƒ/2.2 ultra-wide-angle lens completes the configuration.
The Huawei Mate in-house operation unveiled by Huawei last year.
More classic Nova 13 and Nova 13 Pro
The Mate X6 is not the only smartphone that Huawei has confirmed will be released in France. It will be accompanied by the Nova 13 and Nova 13 Pro, two much more conventional smartphones, sold for €549 and €699 respectively.
A positioning in which competition is tough and, once again, much better established in consumer habits thanks to a complete Android experience.
4G, not offering the Google applications and services to which we are all accustomed, Huawei's latest products will have difficulty making their mark, despite an attractive technical sheet, particularly in terms of photography (a front sensor of 60 megapixels for selfies).
