Real Sociedad sank the yellow submarine fleet by the minimum (1-0) thanks to a solitary goal by Takefusa Kubo in the 51st minute of the match, a victory that adds spice to the noble zone of the League.
The first part was bad. Both teams showed little rhythm in their game and the chances could be counted on the fingers of one hand.
The first came in the third minute of the game when Brais Méndez caught a rebound inside the area, although it was well repelled by the yellow submarine defense.
Without much football on their part, the minutes passed without great emotions, until a great counterattack by Villarreal, through Pape Gueye, ended in the legs of Thierno Barry who took a very forced shot thanks to good pressure from Aritz Elustondo.
The clearest came in the final minutes of the first 45 minutes, with Luka Sucic who caught a rebound on the edge of the area and smashed the ball against Luiz Junior’s left post.
With no time left, the players headed into the locker room tunnel with a more than deserved 0-0. It was then that when the match resumed, Takefusa Kubo decided to play Leo Messi. He caught a ball from the sky in the center of the field and dedicated himself to advancing and leaving his rivals behind to stand in front of the rival goal after a shot and beat the rival goalkeeper.
The 1-0 made the temperature of the match rise. The visiting team, forced to take risks to get into the game, made a good offensive transition thanks to Barry’s driving that enabled the recently introduced Gerard Moreno to launch a great shot that was stopped by Álex Remiro.
With the match more open, the players began to show off more and better in the rival field. Once again Sucic, the most daring of the Txuri Urdin defense, tried a shot from the edge of the area, although Luiz Junior repelled it well.
Orri Óskarsson was able to kill the match on the edge of stoppage time, although in the mouth of the goal and under pressure from Juan Foyth, he bit and it was an easy save for the visiting goalkeeper.
