NARRATIVE – The right is urging François Bayrou to reduce public spending and contain the tax burden without suspending pension reform.
This is a warning clearly accepted by the right. In the last days preceding François Bayrou's general policy declaration (DPG), the Republicans are increasing the pressure on his government even if some of their own, like Bruno Retailleau or Annie Genevard, occupy key positions, in the Interior and to Agriculture. The message is clear: there is no question of endorsing budgetary guidelines which would further deepen the difficulties of a country where all the signals are red. Reducing public spending, containing tax pressure and not suspending pension reform are all calls placed on Rue de Varenne like red lines.
