New Belgian champion Thibau Nys sought out the Spanish sun today and was not there in Otegem. Eli Iserbyt, Laurens Sweeck and Toon Aerts, among others, were at the start.
After Wies Nuyens’ fast start, about 10 riders gathered at the rush hour of the race.
Laurens Sweeck wanted to make the race fast and immediately threw a bomb. He ran away together with teammate Joran Wyseure. Eli Iserbyt and Jens Adams followed.
Sweeck and Wyseure then continued to make it difficult for the pursuers, but were unable to hold off Iserbyt and Adams. Behind the foursome, the two Kempen sons Toon Aerts and Toon Vandenbosch followed.
Only Toon Aerts was able to make the connection. He took the place of Jens Adams, who had to drop out just before the start of the final round.
Iserbyt immediately threw its trump cards on the table. He grabbed a few seconds, but could not definitively release the others. We prepared for a sprint.
And Toon Aerts was the fastest of the 4. He won ahead of Laurens Sweeck and Joran Wyseure. Eli Iserbyt just missed the podium.
It is the first victory for Toon Aerts since 2022 in Lille.
