As Le Monde reveals, Monday January 13, the Minister of Transport, Philippe Tabarot, is suspected of “embezzlement of public funds” and “illegal taking of interests” by the National Financial Prosecutor's Office. An investigation has been opened.
It is a legal case which the government, threatened by censorship from the National Assembly, would have done well without. According to information from Mondepublished Monday January 13, the Minister of Transport, Philippe Tabarot, is the target of an investigation for “embezzlement of public funds”, “illegal taking of interests” and “concealment of the two crimes”.
This investigation, opened by the National Financial Prosecutor's Office, follows a report from the High Authority for Transparency in Public Life on July 29, 2021, when Philippe Tabarot was then Les Républicains (LR) senator for Alpes-Maritimes. It concerns in particular the positions occupied by Philippe Tabarot within the tourist and cultural public interest group (GIP) then in communication for the commune of Cannet (Alpes-Maritimes) between 2018 and 2020. A commune including its sister, the LR deputy Michèle Tabarot, was mayor at the time of the events.
Several searches in November 2022
In November 2022, searches took place at his home, at the town hall of Le Cannet and in the premises of the GIP in Cannet. “I have no information on the content and purpose of the procedure. In any case, I have never been heard in this context“, Philippe Tabarot reacted to our colleagues. He has not yet reacted publicly.
