FC Barcelona started 2025 with a bang by winning the first Classico of the season. Opposed to its historic rival, Real Madrid, during the final of the Spanish Super Cup in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Barça inflicted a real correction on Carlo Ancelotti’s team by winning 5-2 in a spectacular match.
This Classico looked like revenge for Real Madrid, dominated during their previous confrontations in 2024: a friendly match in August and a bitter defeat (0-4) in La Liga during the 11th? daytime. However, the Madrilenians, current leaders of the Spanish championship, started the meeting in the best possible way thanks to Kylian Mbappé. From 5? minute, the French striker opened the scoring after a brilliant individual action, putting his team in the lead.
Barça turns the tide
The reaction of FC Barcelona was not long in coming. Faithful to their playing philosophy, the Catalans increased their offensive attacks, quickly taking control of the match. At 22? minute, Lamine Yamal equalized with disconcerting ease, eliminating two defenders before deceiving Thibaut Courtois with a surgical strike.
A few minutes later, Robert Lewandowski, from the penalty spot (36?), then Raphinha, with a masterful header (39?), allowed Barça to take a clear advantage before half-time. The fourth goal, scored by Alejandro Baldé in stoppage time (45?+10), sealed a first period dominated by Flick’s men
A solid Barça despite numerical inferiority
In the second half, Barça continues its offensive festival with a double from Raphinha (50?) for the 5th goal. Real Madrid reacted with a powerful free kick from Rodrygo (60?) after the expulsion of Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szcz?sny, but this reduction in the score was not enough. Despite being numerically inferior for more than thirty minutes, the well-organized Barca team managed to maintain their lead and won their 15th Spanish Super Cup.
