Diego Martínez’s team fell into José Bordalás’s trap and did not know how to get anything out of it against a Getafe team that just had to make the yellow team desperate and wait for an opportunity to appear. Fabio Silva missed a penalty with the score tied and Januzaj debuted as yellow in a match in which Getafe debuted away this season and once again compresses the bottom of the table.
Everything bad in Gran Canaria. The game went wrong before it started, when Marvin Park, who had been announced in the starting eleven, appeared dressed without his game clothes after warming up. In his place appeared Juanma Herzog, who also occupied that right-back position, unprecedented for him. In this way, UD started with four natural center backs forming their defensive line.
How the game would be in the first half, that was almost the highlight. Not because it was unexpected, because everything indicated that it was going to be one of those games that was difficult for the viewer to watch. However, it is one thing to imagine it and another to see it later. The only thing that stood out was a very clear chance by Aleñá who failed to beat Cillessen after 10 minutes after an error by an unknown Essugo throughout the first half.
The only dangerous yellow arrival in the Getafe area was a shot by Kirian from the edge of the area that David Soria cleared with great difficulty. UD, very lacking in Football at the start due to the setback on their right side, barely left their field and became desperate due to the continuous interruptions of the game, especially illustrated by Fábio Silva who more than once made the gesture to the referee of the repetition of fouls received.
The improvised change at right back was undone by Diego Martínez at half-time, removing Juanma Herzog from the field to introduce Manu Fuster and almost completely changing the setup. Javi Muñoz on the side, Moleiro in the middle and Manu Fuster on the wing. At least it helped UD start by getting more into the rival area. Manu Fuster was precisely the protagonist when he asked for a penalty for contact in the area that did not seem enough to go to the VAR.
UD forgives, Getafe sentences
The yellow team had a different look and found the best chance of the game shortly after, when Sandro was brought down in the area by Alderete with the resulting penalty. Fábio Silva tried to repeat what he did against Mallorca… but between not making good contact with the ball and David Soria guessing his intention, the chance from eleven meters went to limbo.
There was the game that seemed like nothing was happening, with very timid approaches by both teams… Until the catastrophe arrived. Peter Federico, who had just joined the pitch, put a ball into the area that Uche combed and Coba, Getafe’s young footballer, finished off at the far post, winning the individual game against Javi Muñoz. The challenge was huge: do practically what, apart from an isolated action, UD had not managed to do throughout the game, that is, go ahead and create real danger for a team that specializes in defending results.
Diego Martínez went with everything up front, introducing Mata and Marc Cardona; Bordalás refreshed with Borja Mayoral. And it was the visiting striker who found the goal, pushing a serve from a Coba who left his mark on the match with a goal and an assist. Januzaj made up taking advantage of a loose ball in the area and gave life to the game in the final stretch, but the tone of the game no longer changed and UD left empty-handed against a Getafe that achieved its first victory away from home.
