The podium
With the 17 on the 1, the American Lauren Macuga celebrates the surprise victory. Stephanie Venier (Austria) and the Italian Federica Brignone are on the podium. Macuga knocked Lara Gut-Behrami off the podium with her sensational drive; she missed it in fifth place by 34 hundredths.
Scene of the race
During the race the sun came out at times, which improved the chances of the drivers who started late and fast times were possible. Only then did Macuga’s victory come about. The 22-year-old had never been on a World Cup podium before. The Swiss women who started after her were unable to benefit from the better visibility and the sun disappeared again. Nevertheless, Lindsey Vonn once again managed a convincing performance, the 40-year-old came in a strong fourth place.
This is how the other Swiss women did
Malorie Blanc couldn’t quite repeat her exploit from the day before, but she still came in a good ninth place, one place behind Corinne Suter. Michelle Gisin with start number 2 had a scary moment: she lost her skis and was able to spectacularly avoid a fall, but lost a lot of time as a result.
Slope whispers
Gut-Behrami has already won the Super-G in St. Anton twice: in 2021 and 2023. There was also a third place, also in 2023. At that time, two races were completed within two days, so the Ticino woman won big. At her first start on the Karl Schranz slope in 2013, she finished 7th.
This is how it goes
On Tuesday the technicians will drive a slalom in Flachau. The speed riders will once again complete a downhill and a Super-G in Cortina d’Ampezzo next weekend.
