The Chained Duck revealed that the Senate had ordered a very expensive new seat for the presidency.

The President of the Senate Gérard Larcher (LR) admitted on Saturday to Le Parisien that the acquisition of new seats for the presidency of the session costing several tens of thousands of euros was a “error” and announced that he had requested an investigation, in an interview with Le Parisien on Saturday.

This week, Le Canard chainé revealed that the Senate had ordered a new seat for the presidency for 40,000 euros excluding tax.

Questioned on this subject, Mr. Larcher corrected the price of the chair, “Exactly 34,000 euros for two armchairs and a prototype, while specifying that the furniture of the Senate” has a “history and therefore a cost”.

An investigation

He claimed that he had not been informed of this and had “requested an investigation,” recognizing an “error” while saying he expected “a change in practices from the Senate administration.”

“You cannot advocate reducing public spending and not apply it to yourself,” declared the President of the Senate who in the same interview with Le Parisien said he expected the new Bayrou government to continue “reducing the deficit and public spending with concrete actions”.
