This Saturday, January 11, 2025, an event was organized in Chaource in Aube, in support of the breeder who took in a wild boar named Rillette in the summer of 2023. The animal was only a wild boar when Élodie Cappé found it on her land.
But keeping a wild boar at home is not possible. It is in fact prohibited by law to keep non-domestic animals. “Indeed, only animals with a known and legal origin can claim authorization to keep or to submit applications for a certificate of capacity and authorization to open an establishment. Thus, a wild boar taken directly from the wild has no legal origin and cannot dispose of it. recalled the Troyes public prosecutor, Julie Bernier, in a press release in mid-December 2024.
This Saturday, nearly 500 people came to support the breeder. A good-natured procession, followed by numerous media. Alongside Élodie Cappé, behind a large banner that says “Save Rillette, thank you very much for your support”we find Éric Naulleau and Yann Moix, two media personalities who wanted to be there.
There are also associations such as the Animal Protection Brigade or One Voice. “For us, there is a lot of zeal. We see that cases of mistreatment take months and months before being investigated by the courts. There, in a month of time, the justice system has demonstrated quite a surprising speed”, indicates Dominique Menissier, referent of the One Voice association in Aube, interviewed by our journalist Tiphaine Le Roux.
At the end of December, the public prosecutor’s office ordered the owner of the animal to entrust it to a company based in Loiret, specializing in the training of animals for the cinema. A possibility totally rejected by Élodie Cappé. During the gathering, she assured that the manager of the company would also have retracted.
The demonstration comes two days before a hearing at the administrative court, Monday January 13. “On Monday, I am going to suspend this decision. Initially, it was euthanasia. Then, it is the seizure of the animal. This is to clearly stop everything”explains Élodie Cappé. “If they tell me to stop everything, I won’t go to court.”
The owner of Rillette did not want recovery, which ultimately explains the absence of elected officials. In front of an audience that included animalists, hunters and vegans, she asked everyone to leave, avoiding any excess.
