This Friday, the 17th day of Ligue 1 opened with two interesting matches which promised to be breathtaking. While the 7 p.m. Nantes-Monaco match had kept all its promises (2-2), the opposition between Auxerre and LOSC had everything to be as exciting as its predecessor. In poor form after a breathtaking first part of the season, AJA had a lot to do against Mastiffs who had two draws in Ligue 1 and who had to win before a complicated schedule in the coming weeks. In the event of a victory, Lille could even take third place after Monaco’s draw in Nantes.

With all these heated contexts, the meeting was disputed from the start. Confiscating the ball from their opponents, the visitors had the first opportunity of the match but Benjamin André and his floating shot were unable to give LOSC the advantage (9th). Shy at first, the promoted then woke up and began to create several situations like this vicious strike from Paul Joly which forced Chevalier to work (25th). Despite superiority in possession, Lille did not create that many chances in the first half and Bruno Genesio’s men gave in, leaving dangerous counterattacks to the locals. Ultimately, the score remained goalless at the break despite a fairly disjointed rhythm in this first act.
Even at 11 against 10 and with a penalty, LOSC failed to score in Auxerre
Upon returning from the locker room, Lille quickly wanted to be sharper offensively. The Mastiffs then thought they could quickly resolve the situation when the penalty spot was indicated by Gaël Angoula. However, after viewing the VAR, the former defender noted that the contact between Jubal and Haraldsson was not worth a penalty in favor of the visitors (51st). A few minutes later, the Icelander, messy but impactful, distinguished himself with a huge miss (54th) before causing, this time, an undeniable penalty after a shirt pull from Paul Joly in the area (56th). The AJA right defender was even excluded (56th), which provoked the ire of a member of the Auxerre staff, who also received a red card. Uncompromising in the exercise, Jonathan David finally saw Théo De Percin repel his attempt to his right (58th).

After so many disappointments to open the scoring, LOSC did not give up and quickly returned to the attack on Théo De Percin’s goals. Excellent on his line and heroic this Friday, the member of the French delegation to the last Olympics will have once again been imperial against a Haraldsson in all the good moves, but so clumsy this evening (64th). With numerical superiority, the Mastiffs threw all their forces into the battle, but nothing was able to do so against the solid and united Auxerrois. With this frustrating draw, LOSC misses the great operation of this Friday. Still relegated two points behind Monaco, Aissa Mandi’s teammates remain fourth and could even be sixth at the end of the day if Lyon and Nice win. For its part, AJ Auxerre can boast of this point gleaned which allows them to consolidate their ninth place in the standings.
