Season 2 of the British thriller “Vigil” makes its big return this Thursday evening on Arte. In this new burst of episodes, Kirsten Longacre, played by Rose Leslie, is pregnant to the teeth.
This Thursday, January 9 from 8:55 p.m., Arte broadcasts the first episodes of season 2 of Vigil. The opportunity to find Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) and Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie) in a new investigation which promises to be as complex as ever.
In this new burst of episodes, gone are the narrow corridors of the nuclear submarine HMS Vigil, this time they will have to infiltrate this time into the hostile ranks of the Royal Air Force.
Was Rose Leslie pregnant?
During the filming of season 2 of Vigil, Rose Leslie, who plays Kirsten Longacre’s character, was pregnant with her second child with her husband Kit Harington (Game of Thrones). A pregnancy which was therefore integrated into the plot of the series.
During a Q&A session, the actress explained that her pregnancy had helped her during the filming of season 2. It indeed allowed the authors to have a reason “organic” to separate the couple once again. Kirsten being pregnant to the teeth, she could not go to the Middle East with Amy to carry out her new investigation.
“I liked the idea that Kirsten’s pregnancy forced her to stay at home in Scotland, which allowed us to separate in a natural and logical way”, she explained. “I felt like this premise helped explain why their relationship would once again be torn apart..”
A pregnancy which allowed the characters to evolve
This pregnancy also allowed the relationship between Amy and Kirsten to evolve. “The fact that I was pregnant helped with the development of the story and sped things up. What was really interesting about the second season was seeing the dynamic between [les deux personnages]. [Amy] tries to slow me down, while I try to prove to him that I am still capable of fending for myself despite my pregnancy.”
Rose Leslie wanted to thank the production of Vigil for its flexibility, filming having stopped a few weeks before the birth of her baby. “World Productions was fantastic in accommodating my pregnancy, and making sure I finished on time, and that my work days didn’t start too early, and that filming finished when I was 37 weeks pregnant”, she confided before adding: “I really liked that. It was great.”
