Prime Minister François Bayrou has been receiving the social partners since Tuesday, against the backdrop of the thorny subject of the highly contested 2023 pension reform. Meetings organized before his general policy speech which should set the course for his mandate. On Wednesday January 8, he notably received the general secretary of the CGT Sophie Binet. Upon leaving Matignon, the number one of the CGT declared at the microphone of Inter that she had asked her to “to block” reform and “stopper son application”.

“The Prime Minister listened to us attentively. He did not close the door, however, he did not give us the answers we expected”she said. “We asked him to organize a fundraising conference with social actors, the government and parliamentarians”, she continued. François Bayrou “announced to us that he wanted to open discussions as soon as possible” and agreed that “6 months or 9 months [de concertation]was too long a delay”.

Sophie Binet said she was waiting for the general policy speech from the head of government on January 14. “We will be extremely vigilant and the CGT will take all necessary decisions in the light of this general policy discourse”she warned. “If it wants to last, it must respond to the country’s social emergency,” she assured, reminding François Bayrou that “Michel Barnier was censored because of the social violence of his politics”.

On Thursday, the leaders of the CFE-CGC François Hommeril, FO Frédéric Souillot and the president of U2P (local businesses) Michel Picon will be received. The boss of the CFTC, Cyril Chabanier, will be received on Monday.
