To lessen the effects of the intense cold, state officials distributed food such as chocolate, coffee, bread and objects such as blankets and coats to relatives of hospitalized people.
This is part of the so-called “Operation Carousel” that is implemented when the temperature is below nine degrees Celsius.
Although normally these operations are led by Civil Protection, on this occasion, in addition to the head of that corporation, Erik Cavazos, the Secretary of Health, Alma Rosa Marroquín, and the Secretary of Citizen Participation, Daniel Acosta Fregoso, also attended.
The operation was carried out outside the Maternal and Child Hospital which is in the municipality of Guadalupe, but in the early morning the governor had already done the same at the University Hospital, and it is planned to go to other hospitals.
“Nuevo León will continue to implement Operation Carousel, focusing on early morning hours and early hours of the day at strategic points such as hospitals and intersections where people are at risk of frostbite.
“This operation provides assistance to people who are at risk due to low temperatures, relying on constant monitoring through tours by Civil Protection elements,” the state said in a statement.
This care is also provided to homeless people, who are even offered to be taken to a state DIF shelter.
“Operation Carousel is activated when the temperature registers in single digits (from 9 degrees Celsius.
“During the day and night, reports that reach 911 alerting about homeless people will be attended to,” the state noted.
