Sentenced in 2018 to life imprisonment by the Thiès criminal chamber, in the burglary of the house of magistrate Malick Lamotte, Bakary Cissé benefited from a reduced sentence, through a presidential pardon, after 18 years in prison.

On this New Year’s Eve, the President of the Republic Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, in accordance with the Constitution and republican tradition, granted pardon to 1,223 people convicted of various offenses.

Among these prisoners benefiting from the presidential decree, is Bakary Cissé. In 2007, he and his gang burglarized the home of magistrate Malick Lamotte in Mbour. Aged 40 at the time, he was sentenced to life imprisonment on July 11, 2018 by the Thiès criminal chamber. He was prosecuted for criminal conspiracy, theft in a meeting committed at night with break-in, escalation and use of a weapon, forgery and use of forgery in an administrative document, escape, gang rape and others.

By presidential pardon, he is subject to a partial remission of his sentence which reduces his sentence to 20 years of criminal imprisonment. Bakary Cissé spent 18 years behind bars. So he only has one year and eight months left to breathe the air of freedom. He can even regain his freedom earlier, benefiting from a reduced sentence.

Indeed, if he meets the rehabilitation criteria, Bakary can request conditional release, within the framework of sentence adjustment with the sentence enforcement judge (Jap).

Between 2005 and 2007, in Mbour, Bakary Cissé and his formidable gang robbed the homes of magistrate Malick Lamotte, Josette Lukianoff, Marthe Haubert, Codou Sy, Moussa Dieng and Philippe Montanari, among other victims. They had taken away cash and valuables.
