José Raúl Mulino, President of Panamaled the celebrations of a new commemoration of the transfer of administration of the Panama Canal, reiterating the country’s sovereignty over the sea route, in the face of Donald Trump’s controversial statements.
“In our hands the Canal has not stopped growing and it is our hands that contribute so that international trade advances along a path of progress. You can rest assured, the Canal will remain in our hands forever,” said the head of state.
As part of the celebrations, a commemorative plaque was unveiled in honor of 25 years of Panamanian management, in addition to decorating the first Panamanian, of Ngöbe Buglé origin, hired by the Panama Canal after the historic transfer of 1999.
“During three different administrations, we have worked under a common goal: to guarantee safe and continuous operation of the Canal for the world. First, we demonstrate the capacity of Panamanians to manage it; Then, we reaffirm our commitment to the expansion and construction of the third set of locks,” declared the administrator of the Panama Canal, Ricaurte Vásquez Morales.
