On Wednesday, January 1, a violent explosion shook the famous Las Vegas Boulevard when a Tesla Cybertruck exploded in front of the Trump Hotel, causing one death and several injuries. The incident, reported by ABC News, raises questions about its causes and implications as the investigation progresses.
In the early hours of 2025, the famous Las Vegas boulevard was shaken by a violent explosion when a Tesla Cybertruck parked in front of the Trump hotel exploded in a huge cloud of smoke, reports ABC News. The incident, which occurred at 8:40 a.m., caused the death of the driver, identified by local media as Matthew Livelsbergera 37-year-old former Army veteran. Sheriff Kevin McMahill said seven bystanders were also injured, including two who were hospitalized with minor injuries.
The investigation quickly revealed that fireworks mortars, accompanied by cans of gasoline, were in the vehicle's bed. Elon Musk, boss of Tesla, affirmed that the incident was not linked to a malfunction of the Cybertruck, stressing that the robust design of the vehicle had limited material damage. “We have never seen anything like this,” he declared on X, specifying that his teams were carrying out their own investigation.
A tragedy in an already tense context
-Videos shared on social media show chaotic scenes, where dense smoke rises above the famous avenue. According to initial findings, fireworks mortars and cans of gasoline were in the Cybertruck's bed, which would have amplified the explosion. Local authorities, supported by the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco , firearms and explosives, do not rule out the possibility of a terrorist act. Livelsberger allegedly rented the Cybertruck through the Turo app, an intriguing detail for investigators.
Furthermore, sources revealed that Livelsberger and Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the main suspect in the deadly attack in New Orleans which occurred a few hours earlier, would have served in the same military base. This potential connection is closely scrutinized to establish possible links between the two tragedies.
Despite the intensity of the investigation, the motive for the explosion remains unclear. “We are exploring all avenues, but it is still too early to draw any conclusions,” Sheriff McMahill said at a press conference. The Trump Hotel and surrounding areas have been evacuated as a precaution while authorities continue their analysis work.
