The ski aces and fans took their breath away when they saw these pictures. Cyprien Sarrazin flew violently through the air and hit the slopes hard during the final training session in Bormio on Friday. The reigning Kitzbühel winner had to be taken to the hospital by helicopter, where doctors diagnosed hemorrhage between two meninges.

An injury that can sometimes be life-threatening. Sarrazin underwent head surgery during the night and the French Ski Association gave an update on Saturday morning. “The operation on the head went well,” writes the FFS. Nevertheless, Sarrazin remains in an artificial coma. A few brain scans will be carried out throughout the day. “There will be further news afterwards,” writes the association.

Strong criticism in the paddock

After Sarrazin’s fall, there was strong criticism of the organizer in Bormio. “The slope is really bad,” complained the Frenchman Nils Allegre. “They don’t know how to prepare a slope. That’s disrespectful.” In addition to Sarrazin, the Italian Pietro Zazzi was also seriously injured during training on Friday. He suffered a fractured tibia and fibula in a fall. The descent on the infamous Stelvio slope starts at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
