Century-old pines uprooted and power lines down… The Carqueiranne district (Var) where the TF1 news went was disfigured by the wind on Monday evening. One man's car was even crushed by a falling tree. “You were incredibly lucky”a woman told him. The vehicle owner details: “Look at the driver's seat. I got out the car, I got in, I took my papers back and when I got out, the car was like that. Luckily I wasn't in it, because a few minutes It was good.”

We are cut off from everything

Ylana, teenager without electricity

With gusts of up to 160 km/h, some roads are still closed to traffic. 24 hours after the storm, a resident we met is still in shock. “I have never seen a wind like this, with such intensity, such strong gusts. Personally, I have not seen it, ever”he explains to our camera, in the report visible at the top of this article. Fortunately, no one was injured.

This Tuesday, December 24 in the morning, many homes were still without electricity. For the children filmed in our report, it is difficult to adapt. “We are cut off from everything, whether it’s household appliances, our phones which can no longer be plugged in. Really, it’s a lack”explains young Ylana. As New Year's Eve approaches, it is impossible to prepare Christmas dinner in these conditions. “If there’s no electricity before noon, maybe we’ll go to our grandfather’s and spend Christmas at his place.”explains Alexander. Since we shot this footage, the power has been restored.

Further down the street, it is already time for repairs. “We spend our Christmas cleaning the streets and clearing the sidewalks. So we will definitely remember it”details another resident. To lend a helping hand to residents, municipal agents even returned from their leave. “That was the urgency: freeing the roads, the access, helping people too. Because sometimes, there are problems, there are people who are alone, isolated. This is the goal of the community “details Arnaud Latil, the mayor of Carqueiranne.

In the department, yellow vigilance was lifted overnight. The wind is calming down.
