Doctor from the University of Technology of Compiègne and civil engineer from Mines de Nancy, Philippe Baptiste also holds an MSc from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, a DEA obtained from Sorbonne University as well as an authorization to manage research.
In 1999, he joined the CNRS as a researcher, then the IBM Watson Research Center from 2000 to 2001. Philippe Baptiste also taught at the École Polytechnique, from 2002 to 2012, in which he directed the laboratory of 'computer science. Furthermore, he created the Institute of Information Sciences and their Interactions.
In May 2013, he joined the Ministry of National Education as head of the strategy and innovation department at the General Directorate of Research and Innovation. In 2014, he became Deputy Director General of the CNRS.
Scientific director then CTO of the Total group from 2016 to 2017, and “Partner and Director” within the Boston Consulting Group in 2020, he joined the Ministry of Higher Education and Research in May 2017 as chief of staff of Minister Frédérique Vidal. In November 2019, he joined Prime Minister Édouard Philippe as an advisor.
Since 2021, Philippe Baptiste has served as President of Cnes, the National Center for Space Studies.
On the proposal of the Prime Minister, François Bayrou, the President of the Republic appoints Philippe Baptiste minister in charge of Higher Education and Research, on December 23, 2024. Philippe Baptiste is minister to Élisabeth Borne, Minister of National Education , Higher Education and Research.
