Many markets and the Barcarès Christmas Village closed their doors on Sunday evening and Monday, December 23, 2024, due to the strong wind. It should fade until Christmas.
“We recorded significant and high values”confirms Timothée Payan. “Values greater than 100/110 km/h and gusts of 122 km/h were recorded on Sunday evening in Perpignan and Targassonne”explains the forecasting engineer to Météo France.
The violent wind blowing across the department on December 22, 2024 pushed the organizers of the Barcarès Christmas Village and the markets of Canet-en-Roussillon, Torreilles and Pia to close the doors of these events to the public.
An episode, however, not unprecedented for the meteorologist who recalls that on December 22, 2023, peaks at “131.8 km: h had been recorded in Perpignan”.
More wind at Christmas
This Monday “the wind began to drop to 80 to 100 km/h in the morning”points out the scientist. It evokes a downward trend throughout the day which will continue until Wednesday December 25 when it will have completely fallen.
