Howard Hawks' Final Bow
If you like Rio Bravo, you will be seduced by Rio Lobosince it is a variation of this essential western. Just like El Dorado, this feature film, which marks the latest collaboration between John Wayne et Howard Hawkstakes up this scenario, but without making a real remake of it.
Using the codes of the classic western (a vigilante hero, a persecuting sheriff, a story of revenge, etc.), Rio Lobo is unfortunately the most unloved film of the trilogy. Perhaps the cause is a feeling of déjà vu?
While Rio Bravo obtains a rating of 4.1 out of 5 and The Golden 4 out of 5, Rio Lobo loses points with a rating of 3.5 out of 5. But the comments are still positive, as we can read below:
“It’s a luminous western whose colors we remember” (Ttnougat)
“Nice little surprise that this latest film from Howard Hawks” (A visitor)
“A well-made classic western, less legendary than its predecessors, but successful all the same” (This is my movies)
“An honorable release for one of the greatest directors in the history of cinema” (Caine78)
“Certainly, Rio Bravo is far superior, but you never get bored and the landscapes of Arizona are magnificent” (Fast)
