A tragedy unfolded early on Friday, December 20 in the evening in Magdeburg, a city of 250,000 inhabitants located in eastern Germany. A suspect has been arrested.
A scene of chaos in the middle of the Christmas market. On the ground, dozens of seriously injured people and panicked passers-by. Friday, December 20, a powerful black sedan burst into an alley at the Magdeburg market, located 150 km from Berlin. The driver, accelerating, mowed down everyone for 400 meters.
Help was deployed quickly. A very provisional report shows several deaths, including a young child, and more than 200 injured. As for the driver, he was filmed just after his race. Captured by the police, he was handcuffed and quickly taken into a van.
“He acted alone. There is no information about other perpetrators. Everything else is subject to further investigation.”revealed the regional interior minister of Saxony-Anhalt. The country's flags will be lowered to half-mast. A ceremony is to take place on Saturday evening, December 21, in Magdeburg Cathedral.
