A week after the two podium places at the Speed Overture in Beaver Creek, Lara Gut-Behrami is also one of the best in the Engadine sun. 18 hundredths separate the 33-year-old Olympic champion from her 23rd World Cup victory in her flagship discipline after an aggressive ride with a small mistake in the lower part of the route.

Only Cornelia Hütter was faster than Gut-Behrami. The winner of the downhill in Beaver Creek turned up the heat after a slow start and moved to the top at the bottom. In great conditions, she ended an 18-year dry spell for the Austrians in the Super-G in St. Moritz. Since Michaela Dorfmeister's double in 2006, only Mirjam Puchner has triumphed in the downhill as an Austrian in the Engadin ahead of Hütter in 2016.
This is what Lara Gut-Behrami says:
«At first I wasn't happy with my ride because I made a big mistake in the lower part. Basically I'm happy with the skiing, I can build on that and that was definitely positive. I hope I can carry the momentum into the giant slalom.”
Behind Hütter and Gut-Behrami were four Italians: Sofia Goggia, Elena Curtoni, Federica Brignone and Laura Pirovano. The second best Swiss woman was Corinne Suter in 10th place. The woman from Schwyz, who made her comeback in Beaver Creek after tearing her cruciate ligament in January, spoke in the SRF interview of “a good next step in the right direction”.

Lindsey Vonn approached her first World Cup race in almost six years tentatively and improved as the race progressed. At the first intermediate time, the 40-year-old American was outside the top 30, more than half a second behind. At the finish, she was a good two tenths faster than the third-best Swiss woman Michelle Gisin, who was directly behind her, and was in the top 15.

Nobody should go away empty-handed at Christmas. That's why we've come up with 14 not always serious gifts for the National League teams.
A lot of things are right with HCD. The foreigners score, the defensemen defend and the goalkeepers hold the pucks. Only the Swiss strikers have received little so far: If Andres Ambühl, Enzo Corvi or Marc Wieser were still in the form they were five years ago, Davos would probably be unstoppable.
